These are the steps you need to take to verify site ownership with Google Search Console.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are 1000's of companies that manage DNS Records ie Name Servers for website owners.  Luckily, the DNS Record system is standardized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">GSC Site Verification Steps<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Collect what you need to create a new TXT Record<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Open Google Search Console<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Login where you domain is currently hosted (ie where the nameserver matches)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to the DNS Zone or Record Manager Section<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add a new TXT Record<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go back to GSC to Confirm<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Collect Required Fields for a TXT Record<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To verify your site with GSC you will create a <strong>TXT<\/strong> Record.  Regardless where your DNS is managed, a TXT record has the same fields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"heading-2\">Info you need to create a TXT record:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>Name or Record <\/strong>field is where you reference your domain. The <strong>@<\/strong> symbol is commonly used to reference your root domain.  Note: some DNS forms exclude this field, if it's not there you likely don't have to worry about it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>Value or Content<\/strong> field is where you'll copy &amp; paste the unique string from GSC  (see the next step)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>TTL<\/strong> stands for \"<strong>time to live<\/strong>\" and it's just how long the DNS record will take to be live on the server.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Most DNS forms will provide a drop down of options, pick the shortest or fastest time.  Sometimes the numbers are in seconds (3600,7200,14400, etc).\n<ul>\n<li>14440=4hrs, 7200=2hrs, 3600=1hr<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table is-style-stripes has-normal-font-size\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><thead><tr><th>Field<\/th><th>What You Enter<\/th><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td>Record Type<br><\/td><td>TXT<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Name\/Record<\/td><td>@<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Value\/Content<\/td><td>unique-text-string-from-google-search-console<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>TTL<\/td><td>pick the fastest\/shortest time<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">All DNS Zones will look similar<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"heading-2\">Companies name the DNS section differently.  Here are few examples:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>DNS Manager<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>DNS Editor<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>DNS Zone<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>DNS Records<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Advanced DNS Settings<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>DNS &amp; paste into the DNS Settings next.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Login to the web host or domain registrar for your domain<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you're not 100% sure, here's a <a href=\"https:\/\/copperinsights.com\/where-is-my-domain-registered\/#nameserver-list\">list of common name servers<\/a> (and the companies that own them). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you came here from the GSC Verification Tool, then you know exactly <strong><em>where<\/em><\/strong> you need to login to add a TXT record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Go to the DNS Zone or Record Manager section<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember the name of this section will vary across providers.  But DNS Zone\/Editor Manager\/Settings are the most common.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Add a new record (TXT)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You already did all the prep work in Step #1.  Just select your choices:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Type of Record: TXT<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Name\/Record:  @<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Content\/Value:  Cut and paste the string you copied from Google Search Console<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Time to Live (TTL):  Pick the shortest\/fastest time<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Go Back to GSC, Verify Ownership<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Go get a glass of water, wait a minute...<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then Click the Verify Button<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Success!  <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You have now verified your domain with Google Search Console<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Add a TXT Record to your DNS Let's look at what information you need and how to add a TXT record.
